Leadwall

The Leadwall is the primary Titan weapon for Ronin in Titanfall 2. It is a shotgun, based on the same design as the Triple Threat grenade launcher of Titanfall.

History

Design and performance

The Leadwall has a magazine of 4 shots, fires 2 rows of 4 pellets in a rectangle pattern. Versus pilots, it deals a maximum of 60 damage per pellet, down to 25 damage at longer ranges. Versus Titans, it deals 100 damage, down to 75. Aiming down sights dramatically decreases the spread. The Leadwall has a fairly high reload time when compared to the high fire rate and low magazine size. The weapon deals high damage at short range, shredding Titan armor and eliminating pilots in one shot. However, the shots will dissipate after a certain distance, making it useless for long range combat.

While reloading, activating Sword Block, Arc Wave, or using your melee weapon will interrupt the reload. However, if the reload animation was interrupted after the halfway point (which is a bit before the new magazine has been inserted into the Leadwall), the weapon will save your progress in the reloading, allowing you to finish the last portion of the animation after finishing the ability/melee attack. This can be extremely useful to get in reloads in the middle of fights, mitigating the Leadwall's long reload time and allowing them to stay protected while using Sword Block, among other uses.

Field notes

  • At first, the Leadwall might appear weak. Simply shooting a Titan from mid-range will do mediocre damage at best. The three most important parts of getting high damage out of the leadwall are to get as close as possible, aim down sights for the tighter spread, and to aim for the weak point of Titans when possible. However, aiming down sight does slow Ronin down, so keep that in mind. Aiming down sight while dashing will not slow Ronin, though this can be somewhat difficult to utilize.
  • The Leadwall is also an exceptional pilot-killing weapon. Aiming down sight to reduce the spread is even more important for hitting small pilots.
  • The Leadwall has a long reload animation compared to the time it takes to fire all 4 shots. As such, it's important to get in and do huge damage, then use Ronin's mobility to get behind some form of cover to reload. Waiting for the enemy to reload or reloading during Phase Dash are also good ways to find time to reload in the middle of a fight.

Trivia

  • The Leadwall shares many similarities to the Triple Threat from the original Titanfall, using a similar magazine drum, but having 3 barrels instead of 1. Even the concept art depicts the weapon with the name Triple Threat.
