Swiping his sword across the ground, Ronin creates an electric wave that damages and slows enemies hit by it.
— Description

The Arc Wave is a Titan Ordnance Ability that appears in Titanfall 2.[1] It is used by the class Ronin, as well as Ronin Prime.

Swiping his sword across the ground, Ronin creates an electric wave that deals 1,000 damage to Titans and heavily damaging Pilots, slowing their movement and dash speed. While using Sword Core, the damage is increased to 1,500, and will always kill an enemy Pilot. If the ordnance button is held down, Ronin will hold out his hand (which can be held indefinitely) and when released will use Arc Wave. The Arc Wave has decently long range, but will disappear after a few seconds.

Strategies

  • Arc Wave has two main uses: Engaging, and Disengaging. The Arc Wave's most useful aspect is it's slowing effect, making it very difficult for enemy titans to move. This makes it useful to begin an engagement (as the opposing titan will be unable to flee or dodge Ronin's bullets), and disengaging (as the enemy titan will be too slow to chase the escaping Ronin). It can also be used in order to stun a titan while one uses a nuclear ejection next to them, effectively preventing escape.
  • It can be used to catch up to fleeing enemies, since Arc Wave has a longer range than the Leadwall.
  • It is rarely worth it to waste an Arc Wave on Pilots, as it cannot kill them in one hit, unlike the Leadwall.

Interactions

  • Arc Wave will take down an active Particle Wall instantly, making it extremely useful against entrenched Tone Titans.
    • Arc Wave will also instantly destroy a Legion's Gun Shield, unless the Legion knows to look upwards to prevent this.
    • It can thus be smart to wait until either Titan use such abilities to use an Arc Wave against them.
  • Vortex Shield can block an Arc Wave if the Ion looks at it while using Vortex, while a Scorch using Heat Shield must both crouch and look down to block it.
  • Sword Block can block the damage of an Arc Wave, but not reduce the decreased movement speed.
  • A Northstar that activates Hover while slowed by an Arc Wave will have their hover height reduced. Similarly, if an opposing Ronin is hit by an Arc Wave and attempts to Phase Dash, the movement speed penalty will apply to said Phase Dash, causing the Phase Dash to barely move Ronin at all.

Notes

  • The second half of Arc Wave's animation can be made safer by using Phase Dash right after the wave is created.
  • With perfect timing, crouching right as Arc Wave is used makes it come out about 20% faster. This only works if the player is holding the Leadwall. Seen here: (Link)
    • By combining the two techniques above, Ronin can activate Arc Wave and be safe via Phase Dash almost 3 times faster than if he used Arc Wave by itself.
  • While holding the button to use Arc Wave, if the player wishes to cancel their charge, they can melee and then immediately release Arc Wave, cancelling the charge without wasting the ability.
  • Arc Wave actually comes out at about Ronin's chest. This can be used to have Arc Wave travel over objects if Ronin is right up against them, causing the wave to travel over the object and then continue to travel against the ground. This is most useful on the many buildings in Boomtown.
  • Strangely, while Arc Wave cannot travel up surfaces, it can travel down surfaces, allowing a Ronin standing at a higher elevation to hit enemies below him.
  • Arc Wave can hit multiple enemies at the same time.
  • Arc Waving a titan that is mid-embark animation can hit twice: once on the auto-titan, once on the player-embarked titan.
  • You can sprint while holding Arc Wave. You can also aim down sight, though there is no reason to do so besides increasing your zoom.

Trivia

  • When Sword Core is active, the Arc Wave will appear larger and will become red.
  • Thunderstorm can be used to increase the maximum amount of Arc Waves to 2.
