— Description

The Flame Core is a Titan Core Ability in Titanfall 2.[1] It is used by the class Scorch.

Scorch's Flame Core creates a giant wave of fire that destroys anything in its path. It deals an extremely high amount of damage (4,500 damage, which is almost 2 bars of health), but it is low compared to the maximum damage of many other Titan cores.

Details

When the core is activated, Scorch will raise its hands and bring them crashing to the ground, emitting a wave of thermite which can hit as many enemy Titans as it passes through.

Flame Core has 3 segments side-by-side. You can send the left/right waves around corners if you're close enough and/or can angle your aim to give them a better path.

It is generally hard to avoid as it moves quickly, has a wide range, and can pass through walls to a certain degree. However, it can often be dashed away from, so waiting until the enemy Titan is out of dashes is recommended.

Although the ability has a fairly long range, it is important to consider that it can only travel along the ground it is cast on (Small steps, stairs etc do not affect it) and must be given time to reach its target.

Flame core is unique, because it can bypass an enemy Titan's doomed state, but only if its health bar is very low. This means that it can potential kill an enemy titan before they ever get a chance to eject.

Trivia

  • The Northstar can avoid it altogether using VTOL Hover or Flight Core.
  • Flame Core actually comes out at about Scorch's chest. This can be used to have Flame Core travel over objects if Scorch is right up against them, causing the to continue to travel against the ground. This is most useful on the many buildings in Boomtown.
  • Strangely, while Flame Core cannot travel up surfaces, it can travel down surfaces, allowing a Scorch standing at a higher elevation to hit enemies below him.
  • The Scorch kit Scorched Earth can be used to add a thermite trail after it, similar to that of Incendiary Trap, allowing it to kill enemies that have very low health as a result of the Flame Core. However, this isn't very useful, as it only marginally increases the strength of the core.
  • The width of Flame Core is reduced when looking up or down, so be sure to aim straight when using it.
