Newton Somers
Newton Somers is the son of Dr. Mary Somers, also known as Horizon, although he is deceased by the time of the Apex Games. He was seen in Horizon's Stories from the Outlands cinematic (titled Promise) and Ash's Stories from the Outlands cinematic (titled Ashes to Ash), and the in-game Weekend Warriors quest line in Season 16.
Profile
Before Dr. Somers left on her mission to acquire Branthium from the edge of a black hole, she promised her young son Newton that she would return. However, Horizon was betrayed by her protégé, Dr. Ashleigh Reid, and was left stranded in the black hole's orbit. Horizon eventually escaped, but due to time dilation, 87 years had passed before she returned; as such, Newton had since passed away.
At some point in his life, Newton Somers was a research assistant for Project Iris, which resulted in the creation of Pathfinder. However, Reid, now one of Newton's senior colleagues, would later attempt to steal the acquired Branthium supply from his research team shortly after Pathfinder's creation, which resulted in Reid's human "death." It is later revealed by Ash that Newton's body is never found and that he could still be alive. Furthermore, an audio log found from Newton on Olympus reveals that Horizon's efforts to time travel back do prove fruitful.
