The "bodyshield" is a type of energy shielding system. These shields can be employed on a number of different pieces of equipment throughout the Frontier, though are most commonly found employed by Titans. Titan-grade bodyshields can also be employed on Goblin and Crow dropships via the use of the Dropship Combat Search and Rescue System, which installs several "Titan-grade" bodyshields aboard the dropship in question to increase resilience under heavy fire.

Operation

Bodyshield strength can vary depending on the Titan in question. Titans of the Stryder chassis typically have the weakest bodyshields, with those employed by Atlas and Ogre Titans (and their variants) getting procedurally more powerful. The Shield Core employed by the Ogre and Destroyer Titans doubles the shield's strength for a short amount of time, while additional modifications such as the Shield Upgrade will upgrade the shield capacity for the Titan it is equipped on.

Not all Titans come equipped with a bodyshield as a standard feature - only the Atlas, Ogre, Stryder, Destroyer and Vanguard Titans come with a shield as a standard feature. These shields are capable of recharging automatically if damage has not been sustained for several seconds, thus allowing the Titan to increase its operational lifespan in the field considerably. By comparison, those designs fielded by the Battle of Typhon such as the Tone, Legion, Scorch, Ronin, Northstar or Ion do not come with bodyshields as standard equipment. These Titans are capable of generating shields with the addition of a Battery, or through the Energy Transfer employed by a friendly Monarch. Once these shields are depleted, they will not recharge. The shields found on the post-Battle of Demeter Titans are additionally weaker than their predecessors.

The Monarch attempts to combine both the old and new bodyshield implementations by equipping with the Energy Siphon; a powerful beam emitter that drains energy from enemy Titans and vehicles to power the Monarch's own shield. This beam can be aimed at friendly Titans to transfer shields to them. When the Monarch's Upgrade Core is ready, activation of the core will provide the Monarch with a full shield. The Energized Smoke and its Level 2 upgrade also allow the Monarch to provide shields to allied Titans by deploying Electric Smoke.
