The Battle of Base Golden was an engagement fought by forces of the Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation and Frontier Militia in the Frontier War. The battle was fought at IMC Base Golden, situated on the planet Leviathan, and was the first in a number of major operations conducted by the Militia leading into the Battle of Demeter.

Prelude

IMC Base Golden, also referred to as Tower Station Zulu or the Boneyard, was a facility set up by the IMC in the years following their arrival on The Frontier, with the intent of studying the application of Dog Whistle Tower technology and its effects on the native fauna of the Frontier. Prior to its abandonment two decades prior to the Frontier War, Robert "Barker" Taube would serve at the site, gaining critical knowledge of the base's location. The base would ultimately be abandoned for reasons unknown, and left to the wilderness for twenty years.

The Repulsor Tower technology developed at Base Golden would later go on to be employed at Airbase Sierra, protecting Demeter.

Frontier War

Having recruited the talents of ex-IMC officers MacAllan and Barker in the battles of Troy and Angel City, the Militia had the necessary expertise to make a surgical strike at the IMC refueling port of Demeter. However, before events could proceed, one major obstacle remained; the IMC Carrier IMS Sentinel. Following damage taken in Angel City, elements of the Marauder Corps would strike at the drydock of Outpost 207 in an effort to destroy the carrier, at the behest of Barker. The plan would ultimately succeed in taking the vessel off the board, giving Militia fleets breathing room to advance the plans laid out by MacAllan.

Using knowledge gained from his past experience working on the base, Barker would fly a small force of Pilots to the site.

The Battle

The battle would centre around three uplink Hardpoints situated inside the base. While Militia forces would attempt to secure a stable uplink to allow Bish to analyse the tower's inner workings, the IMC forces would attempt to scuttle the base entirely to deny the Militia a potential asset, with Spyglass attempting to overload the base reactors. During the course of the fighting, both factions would be set upon by native Flyers, who would attempt to carry off soldiers from both sides.

Aftermath

Regardless of which faction won the battle, the Militia would ultimately succeed in extracting enough information from the base to develop a weapon designed to bring down the towers at Airbase Sierra - the Icepick. In the event of a Militia victory in the mission Here Be Dragons, however, Bish successfully uses the tower at Base Golden to send out a pulse, repelling the wildlife in the area. In the event of an IMC victory, the base was succesfully scuttled by Spyglass and rendered inoperable - though the Militia would still be able to develop the Icepick.

In the Battle of Airbase Sierra, the information gathered at Base Golden would be used to bring down the anti-wildlife defenses protecting the base from Leviathans, resulting in the destruction of a large portion of the defense fleet assigned to guard Demeter.
