The IMC Armed Services[1] are the military arm of the Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation. The IMC Armed Services consist of several branches including the IMC Colonial Navy[2] and IMC Marine Corps. It is unknown whether the IMCAS contains an air force or army. Following the Battle of Demeter, the IMC Armed Services on The Frontier were co-opted by the newly-promoted Vice Admiral Spyglass, leading to the creation of the IMC Remnant Fleet. The ARES Division, led by General Marder, is a research-and-development wing of the service, focusing on archaelogical excavation and "emergent technologies".[3]

History

Core Worlds

Little of the IMCAS' history is known. During the initial discovery and settlement of the Frontier, veterans of the IMC's military campaigns in the Core Systems would, under the IMC Serviceman's Readjustment Act, be given loans and land to colonise the Frontier.[4] Following this settlement of the Frontier, the IMC (and presumably, the Armed Services) would become once again engaged in several conflicts in the Core Systems against belligerents unknown, leading to support for Frontier settlement being withdrawn due to the war effort.[5]

Titan Wars

Following the IMC's re-emergence on the Frontier, the Armed Services would see action in the Titan Wars. Although details are scarce, it is likely that IMC forces proved victorious.

Frontier War

More recently, the IMC Armed Services have become a primary force in the Frontier War, fighting against the Frontier Militia. Under the leadership of CINCFRONT Vice Admiral Marcus Graves, the IMC Colonial Navy would persue elements of the 1st Militia Fleet for several months, leading to the death of the Militia General Anderson. Eventually, the groups would engage in a series of clashes, leading to the fateful Battle of Demeter. Despite having a third of the navy's total Frontier power present at the battle,[6] IMC forces would fail to prevent the destruction of the Demeter refineries, resulting in the loss of a critical jump point and refueling station.

With IMC forces on the Frontier cut off from the Core Systems for a minimum of two years, Vice Admiral Graves would defect to the Militia cause, with Spyglass serving as his replacement. Due to vast numbers of human personnel joining the former-Vice Admiral, the newly-christened Remnant Fleet would begin work reconstituting the IMC's numbers with vast armies of robotic infantry, comprised of BRD-01 Spectres, Stalkers, Reapers, Simulacrums and many other automatons.

Post-Demeter Conflicts

Following the destruction of the Demeter gateway, Remnant Fleet forces would begin a gruelling fight for survival against a now-organised Militia. For five years, the IMC's holdings would be continually pushed back as the Militia reclaimed over a quarter of Frontier space. In response, the Remnant Fleet would begin a series of raids on target locations both allied and enemy alike, leading to a forming rift with the ARES Division.

Five years following the battle, IMC forces would attempt to construct a superweapon on the planet Typhon, with the intent of delivering a single killing blow to the Militia homeworld of Harmony. Despite the best efforts of the ARES Division, the Fold Weapon's firing would be thwarted by Pilot Jack Cooper, leading to the destruction of Typhon.
